Welcome to the Hawthorne Cedar Knolls Pupil Personnel Department Page

The PPS Department at Hawthorne Cedar Knolls U.F.S.D is a multidisciplinary team of related service providers including School Psychologists, School Social Workers, School Counselors, Speech Language Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists.  The related service providers are responsible for meeting the IEP mandates for all of our students.

At Hawthorne Cedar Knolls UFSD, we believe that all of our students can achieve and benefit from both a structured and therapeutic setting with the support of related services.  Each of our esteemed providers come with a strong clinical foundation and strive to meet the needs of our students in a warm and therapeutic environment.  

The cornerstones of our program are our Social Emotional Learning (SEL)  Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) HIRED system which plays an important part in tracking academic, social/emotional and behavioral progress.  Our HIRED is our district-wide management system which connects school to the real world and college & career readiness.  The program runs on a five day cycle in which students can earn up to five credits a period and up to forty credits a day. Students earn credits for meeting the five “HIRED” target behaviors.  Those target behaviors are:

H- Have your work completed

I- Interact Appropriately

R- Remain in class

E- Ensure Safety

D- Do your job 

Students are monitored and encouraged to meet the target behaviors daily and to get employed. Students on that are on status can also earn Certificates, School Store, Field  Trips and Special Breakfasts & Lunches.

Lastly, the vision of all our school’s stakeholders is to help our students become productive, successful, contributing citizens of the 21st Century.
